Given a cursed name by a mother who loathed and abandoned him, Devil Brigham is the law in a beautiful land during a grim time.

In the depths of the Great Depression, Devil is the unconventional Chief of Arawana's Police Department in the arid Okanagan Valley, toting a sawed-off shotgun instead of a pistol, and dispensing justice with his stallion Rascal and half-wolf police dog Chance.

On the morning Devil and his Deputies are to be evaluated, a naked woman is found wandering a rural road covered in blood that isn't hers. A brutal murder has been committed tied to a labour dispute that threatens to tear the town to shreds as a strike threatens to become a riot.

Devil has four days to thread his way through angry migrant workers, greedy land owners, and crooked politicians, to solve the crime.
