Memoirs of an army cook, POW and member of the Italian Resistance, the Partisani. South African police constable Danie de Jager responded to the call by Genl. J.C. Smuts to help rid the world of the threat of Nazism. Despite the disapproval of many of his relatives, De Jager volunteered and entered the war gamely. He endured terrible gruesome episodes but remauined resourceful and practical.
