Newport Tower: Unsettled History

The Newport Tower is a crude, round stone structure in Newport, Rhode Island. It is said that it was built by early colonists, as a windmill. However, there is little evidence to support that claim, and a wealth of evidence indicating that it is of much older construction, probably precolumbian.
