Zane Grey is an American writer of western adventures. He was one of the ten most descriptive authors in our research, He wrote 85 books—three that I studied in detail—Riders of the Purple Sage, West of the Pecos, and Sunset Pass. In Riders of the Purple Sage, I found 728 descriptive expressions. West of the Pecos has 262 expressions, and Sunset Pass was found to contain 197 expressions.

I choose not to analyze the individual, only his writing style. And in that, Zane Grey excelled.

Of the many books that he wrote, here are some that are considered his best:

The Spirit of the Border (1906)

The Last Trail (1909)

The Heritage of the Desert (1910)

Riders of the Purple Sage (1912)

The Lone Star Ranger (1914)

The Rainbow Trail (1915)

Sunset Pass (1930)

West of the Pecos (1936)

Shadow on the Trail (1946)

Here in The Descriptive Expressions of Zane Grey you'll find various ways that he created visual images. Reading entries in this book can clear your own "writer's block" and open your right brain to countless ideas to make your own writing efforts interesting, visual, memorable and highly profitable.

The common link between all of the most popular books is the visual images that the best writers and speakers create in the minds of readers and listeners who eagerly devour their words. Comments like, "I couldn't put it down!" provide a clue that the author being studied was likely very descriptive in telling their story. It turns out that these authors sold the most books and made the most income. Among the factors that make a book "a keeper" are content and descriptions of the people, places, and things that are sown together to make the book a top seller. Descriptive expressions are also why some speakers are highly sought after to present at various events.

After you've sampled the expressions of Zane Grey and those of other successful authors, you can expand your palette of descriptive words using Descriptive Language for Writers and Speakers: Volume 1 – People, Volume 2 – Places, and Volume 3 – Things.

All of these tools can help make your content generation efforts rich, memorable, and highly profitable.
