The Hero Imperative

Private Investigator Jason Kane is the man to turn to when the cops can't help. But like almost everybody, Kane has always taken for granted that his world is all there is. Then his best friend starts babbling about witches, his client in a seemingly simple missing-person case reveals she's an engineered visitor from another world, and the missing man becomes a suspect in a conspiracy that threatens an unimaginable catastrophe. When a cybernetic goddess commissions Kane as her Hero in the fight, he's hopelessly out of his depth.
