  • The
  • actual,
  • vocalized,
  • storytelling
  • time
  • is
  • approximately
  • two
  • hours. While
  • staying
  • whimsical,
  • some
  • words
  • venture
  • up
  • to
  • the
  • fourth-grade
  • level.
  • This
  • was
  • done
  • intentionally,
  • so
  • the
  • mother
  • or
  • father
  • and
  • child(ren)
  • may
  • interact
  • throughout
  • the
  • book
  • to
  • increase
  • your
  • child’s
  • vocabulary
  • and
  • understandings.
  • The
  • character
  • names
  • of
  • the

  • can
  • be

  • more
  • meaningful
  • to

  • Such
  • as

  • centered
  • around
  • a
  • magical
  • turtle
  • and
  • inquisitive
  • kids.
  • You
  • open
  • the
  • pages
  • to
  • find
  • the
  • distressed
  • loggerhead
  • crying
  • out
  • for
  • help,
  • while
  • stuck
  • upside
  • down
  • in
  • a
  • seashore
  • crevice.
  • Don’t
  • you
  • know,
  • even
  • enchanted
  • turtles
  • can’t
  • perform
  • any
  • magic
  • when
  • they
  • are
  • caught
  • or
  • flipped
  • over
  • on
  • their
  • back? Enter
  • our
  • heroes,
  • Dick
  • and
  • Jane,
  • to
  • tug
  • and
  • twist
  • the
  • helpless
  • creature
  • to
  • freedom.
  • The
  • amphibian
  • protects
  • them
  • with
  • white-magic
  • spells,
  • and
  • off
  • they
  • go
  • off
  • on
  • an
  • adventure
  • or
  • two.
  • Along
  • the
  • way,
  • you
  • and
  • they
  • will
  • swim
  • among
  • the
  • sea
  • life
  • and
  • even
  • walk
  • on
  • the
  • ocean’s
  • floor
  • enjoying
  • the
  • embedded
  • color
  • renderings. But
  • everybody
  • needs
  • to
  • be
  • careful.
  • Mysterious
  • islands
  • are
  • on
  • the
  • horizon.
  • Volcanoes
  • might
  • erupt
  • without
  • notice.
  • Beautiful,
  • but
  • steamy
  • jungles
  • are
  • full
  • of
  • exotic
  • creatures.
  • After
  • finding
  • a
  • half-buried
  • chest
  • down
  • the
  • sandy
  • shore,
  • the
  • kids
  • are
  • captured
  • by
  • a
  • band
  • of
  • pirates.
  • Woe
  • to
  • them.
  • With
  • their
  • marvelous
  • friend
  • still
  • enjoying
  • a
  • needed
  • snooze,
  • the
  • tykes
  • are
  • delivered
  • into
  • the
  • hands
  • of
  • Captain
  • Pegleg. The
  • Skipper
  • and
  • crew,
  • being
  • stranded
  • on
  • that
  • island
  • for
  • decades,
  • shackled
  • the
  • youngsters.
  • Then
  • tried
  • to
  • force
  • them
  • to
  • reveal
  • where
  • their
  • boat
  • was
  • stashed.
  • After
  • all,
  • the
  • children
  • had
  • to
  • have
  • cruised
  • over
  • somehow?
  • Of
  • course,
  • the
  • pirates
  • did
  • not
  • believe
  • they
  • had
  • swum
  • and
  • walked
  • the
  • ocean
  • floor
  • from
  • the
  • mainland
  • to
  • the
  • pirate’s
  • lair. Meanwhile,
  • after
  • awakening,
  • the
  • turtle
  • changed
  • into
  • a
  • toucan
  • to
  • find
  • the
  • kids.
  • After
  • all,
  • a
  • flying
  • toucan
  • can
  • search
  • faster
  • than
  • a
  • lumbering
  • sea-turtle.
  • Unfortunately,
  • the
  • bird
  • was
  • seized
  • and
  • not
  • able
  • to
  • employ
  • magic
  • until
  • it
  • ‘Poofed’
  • and
  • reverted
  • into
  • the
  • turtle’s
  • natural,
  • hard
  • shelled,
  • body. They
  • forced
  • the
  • kids
  • to
  • dive
  • for
  • the
  • pirate’s
  • treasure.
  • Danger
  • lurks
  • in
  • and
  • around
  • the
  • sunken
  • timbers
  • of
  • the
  • decaying
  • ship.
  • Yet,
  • as
  • in
  • all
  • good,
  • bedtime
  • stories,
  • everything
  • works
  • out
  • just
  • fine
  • in
  • the end.
