The Way It Was

"I love you, but I can't be with you."

That was what I told Roarke when we broke up. He had so many good things happening in his life at the time, while mine was spiraling down.

I needed time to fix myself. I hoped I could come back to him, but I was too late. He had moved on. He was no longer mine, and he would never be mine again.

Many years passed, and we saw each other again. To say I wasn't ready for the flood of emotions would be an understatement.
