Wolves of the Border — Volume 1: Blood of the Border
A tale to tell with voices
-----
In a forgotten barn between the dogs' village and the wolves' forest, Blue gives birth to three pups. Orée, golden like the dawn. Moire, with shifting reflections. Ash, gray like what remains after the fire.
Three children born of an impossible love—that of a blue-coated dog and a wolf too gentle, driven out by his own kind.
Raised on the stories their mother tells, the three grow up believing they understand the world: dogs chose friendship, wolves chose freedom, and the separation was simple. But stories have cracks. Versions contradict. And the old dog with milky eyes whispers dangerous truths: "Dogs still have the wolf in them. It's just asleep."
When tensions rise between village and forest, each sibling must seek their own truth. Orée ventures into the pack that rejected her father, hungry to discover the other half of who she is. Moire stays and listens, collecting every version of every story until she can map the shape of what no one wants to say. Ash wanders the margins, where strays and outcasts have built something without hierarchy or borders—fragile, imperfect, and entirely new.
What they discover will challenge everything: that cruelty often wears the mask of necessity, that gentleness can be its own kind of strength, and that the old reflex—the growl, the hunger to dominate—lives in everyone, waiting for fear to wake it.
But they also learn this: the one who tells the story chooses what to illuminate and what to leave in shadow. And if stories can start wars, perhaps different stories can prevent them.

Blood of the Border is an allegorical tale about identity, belonging, and the narratives we inherit. Written to be read aloud—with voices for each character—it speaks to children discovering that the world is more complicated than they were told, and to adults who remember that discovery.
For readers of all ages who have ever felt caught between worlds. For those who suspect that "purity" is a story someone chose to tell. For anyone who believes that the most radical act might simply be choosing to love across borders.

"Here is what I was told, what I saw, and what I chose to tell you. One day you'll tell it differently, and that will be true too. That's how stories live."

**About the Series**
Wolves of the Border is part of Tales from the Border, an interconnected universe of fables exploring how we learn to see through manipulation, recognize the masks people wear, and find our own truth in a world of competing narratives. Each volume plants seeds—of discernment, of critical thinking, of stubborn hope—that grow differently in every reader.
