A severed family sends Seattle Detective Larry Gustavson on a nationwide hunt for the culprits of a horrific crime. Surprised at who the guilty party is, and the reason behind it, Larry initiates an investigation of his own that takes him to New York City, El Paso, Seattle, and other cities.
Going up against a viciously brutal, increasingly unstable cartel boss from previous encounters is not as easy as he thought it would be. Being framed as the suspect of a murder he didn't commit, and now the target of a nemesis from the past, Detective Gustavson transcends into extreme survival mode.
Recruiting help from friends, and aided by a murderous lunatic, he sets a plan in motion. His actions lead him down a path he never imagined, often outside the boundaries of the law.
Haunted by his past, he begins to question his sanity and motives as he falls deeper into the grasp of the lunacy that seems to prevail among some of the people around him: A country music loving deputy district attorney who vies for his affection, leading to intimacy that's painful and unescapable; An underappreciated mother of sorts that feels left out, abandoned and unwanted. Add to that, a best friend that doesn't believe or support him. All these factors force Larry to make decisions that will likely cost him his career and quite possibly his life.
