Sean actually gets a date.

With his car in the shop, Nancy drives him downtown to the arena to a Fleetwood Mac concert and they have good time. When leaving the venue, there is such a sea of cars that it takes them an hour to go half a mile, another hour to go that far again. Seeing an empty road, Nancy takes knowing a shortcut. Sean has his doubts. If it were a shortcut, how come others aren't taking it?

It is well past midnight. The streets are empty. Pretty soon the buildings are derelict hulks. There is no electricity in this part of town. Not even the street lights are working.

hey realize that they have made a mistake try to turn around and go out the way they came in, but by then it is too late. The road ahead is blocked off. So are the side streets. Nancy turns around but someone has pulled a chained with tire-shredding pikes protruding from it across the street. They are trapped and suddenly surrounded by twenty vicious gang members in their colors who are moving in for the kill.

Sean remembers a show he saw on TV about this gang and it's leader. Desperate, Sean declares that he and Nancy are there on purpose because they have a business proposition for the gang's leader.

His bluff works.

He and Nancy are taken to the gang's headquarters where the whole gang, about a hundred warriors, are assembled, with the high lord up on his throne. Sean tries to float the idea that he and Nancy have forty keys of premium heroin for sale, but he knows nothing about heroin, what premium is, the cost, anything. He realizes he is floundering and that they are about to be murdered most hideously when he tries another dangerous and risky gamble.

He begins to insult the high lord. Repeatedly. Recklessly.

It works. The high lord, beside himself with rage, comes down off his throne to kill Sean with his bare hands.

Sean promptly kills him.

Sean finds himself surrounded by a hundred warriors expecting nothing but a slow, lingering death, when, to his astonishment, every warrior there drops down on one knee to acknowledge their new high lord, Sean.

As Sean slowly learns, this gang has a code. The strongest always rules, and he accidentally challenged the old high lord in the accepted custom. A challenge made, and accepted, a fight to the death with no weapons.

So he finds himself high lord of an inner city gang. He cannot leave. He is surrounded by enemies who want him dead. One breach of the code will be all they need to torture him slowly, and hideously.

Can he learn the code, face numerous and assorted threats, and figure out a way get out of there without getting killed?

It is your destiny to read, Wrong Place Wrong Turn.
