Reading is one of the core activities in any course of study in the humanities. It is one of the basic prerequisites for exam preparation, information retrieval, and research, for example. However, academic reading requires special skills, due to the specific text types and functions, terminology and foreign languages, and different media involved. These requirements are often underestimated and are not specifically taught. Mareike Menne skilfully presents different approaches and methods for reading in university courses. She examines typical reading tasks and problems and offers holistic solutions. In this way, she provides a whole repertoire of analyses and methods that make it possible to develop appropriate reading strategies and transfer them to professional contexts.
