Build a Better Grow Box

Given the proper environment, a seed will grow into a spectacular plant. Understanding the requirements for growing such a plant inside a box is the purpose of this guide. Most any kind of plant will grow in a properly built grow box.

In this publication, I'm focused on growing food. I believe this is our future for sourcing healthy nutrient-rich produce at home. Industrialized agriculture has been shown to be ecologically devastating. The effects on our health by consuming poisoned and modified foods are enough to want to grow your own. Owning a grow box will become an essential part of sourcing food, especially here in colder climates.

I've included several illustrations to visually explain the components of a grow box — and various set-ups with specifications on light requirements and air exchange. I'd like to pass on the little idiosyncrasies that I've learned along the way that will avoid the mistakes I made while experimenting with the grow box.
