Dr Michèle van Niekerk is a paediatrician in private practice in Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa. She has always enjoyed writing and had her first poem published in English Alive, while she was in High School. She used to contribute esoteric essays to Whaletalk, a local publication in the 'fishing village'. Her interests include photography, cycling, hiking, amateur birdwatching, camping and reading autobiographies and memoirs. Her practice is currently slanted towards the growing fields of neurodiversity and neurodivergence. All the photos accompanying the essays, were taken by her.
