Captain Smytt says, “You did okay with your introductions and your security interview. However, we have to wait to see if you will get a security clearance. In the meantime, I want you to work on a device driver.”
I ask, “Why don’t I start to work on a device driver?”
Captain Smytt walks me back to Deanna. Captain Smytt says, “Jim Ace doesn’t yet have a security clearance. I want him to work on a device driver for the new signal processor.”
Deanna says, “A device driver for the new signal processor doesn’t require a security clearance. However, Jim may need to talk to the signal processor people. I will have to listen in to that talk.”
I tell Deanna, “Your listening in to the talk with the signal processor people should not be a problem. Just get yourself a reference copy of ‘The Merchant of Voyez.’ Back in school they told me that I would use phrases from ‘The Merchant of Voyez’ for the rest of my life. Ready when you are.”
Deanna sighs, “In all the time that I have worked here, I have never needed reference to ‘The Merchant of Voyez,’ here at work I strongly suspect that you will not need reference to ‘The Merchant of Voyez.’ either. My job is to see that you bozos don’t stray into discussing classified data.”
I sigh, “Back in school literature classes I also strongly suspected that I would not need reference to ‘The Merchant of Voyez.’ in the rest of my life. I voiced my opinion to the fat, stupid, ugly, closet lesbian bitch who taught the literature class. However, it wouldn’t listen to my analysis.”
Deanna sighs, “I think that I see why you got so good at the Loro thing.”
I state, “If ‘The Merchant of Voyez.’ won’t do me any good, I will just have to fall back on my programming learning and experience. Well, one thing I did learn from ‘The Merchant of Voyez.’ is to not spit on those I owe money to nor on those that I need information from.”
