William Crittenden was the son of a general who ran his family like he did his soldiers and for that reason, Will developed a dislike for anything military. However, the excitement of fighting for his country swept him up, and he entered the war under his mother's maiden name.
The war changed his thinking about the military, and when it was over, he decided to stay in the army…and that meant a transfer to the Arizona Territory and an introduction to the Apache Wars.
It was a new beginning in his life and he set out learning as much as he could about the new enemy he was about to meet. What he learned was that not all Apache wanted war and the peaceful ones were about to be swept up in a war they did not want.
Captain William Canavan was in a new land where he found himself torn between the friendship of the peaceful Pine Mountain People and his duty to the United States Army. It was a fine line he walked, but he knew as I soldier he had to follow orders…or did he?
