In the aftermath of a catastrophic EMP event that has thrust America a century into the past, the United States military fights desperately to hold the nation together. On the West Coast, Colonel Clayton, General Watkins, and their commanders push forward, rebuilding order from chaos. But on the East Coast, the situation is far more dire.

Washington, D.C., still clings to its civilian leadership. President Washington has imposed martial law and charged the 3rd Infantry Regiment with defending the capital. Yet his generals are divided, his scientists have no answers, and the city lacks the manpower to protect the surrounding communities from the gangs and militias closing in.

Across the region, once-powerful military installations—Quantico, NAS Oceana, Fort Bragg—fight their own losing battles. Leadership has crumbled. Objectives are unclear. Civilians and soldiers alike are left without guidance and without hope.

And now, a new threat marches toward them: a modern, well-armed rogue army sweeping south from Massachusetts. At its head is a disgraced Army officer determined to seize the capital and crown himself as the nation's new leader.
